What is SAP Fiori?

SAP Fiori is the enhanced user experience for SAP software. It is a design language used in SAP applications, including the S4/HANA and C/4HANA suites, SAP Analytics Cloud, SAP Data Hub, SAP Ariba and others. SAP Fiori provides over 300 role-based applications like HR, Logistics, Manufacturing, Finance, etc.

Design Principles:

The core principle of the Fiori design is to make the user experience:

1.      Role-based: The screen will show only the data relevant to the user.
2.      Responsive: When SAP Fiori is combined with the power of SAP HANA, it provides an unmatched application response and a fast performance.
3.      Adaptive: it automatically adjusts to whatever device being used, whether it was a mobile app or a desktop computer.
4.      Simple: it only shows the most important tasks, functions and activities.
5.      Delightful: it creates visually pleasing designs with a strong focus on the ease of use.

Types of Fiori apps

SAP Fiori has three app types:

· Transactional apps: apps designed for interacting with individual business objects. SAP Fiori first came with 25 transactional apps. These apps give access to each user to run SAP transactions on desktops as well as mobiles and laptops or tablets. Examples of transactional apps are: managing lists of business objects, creating sales orders, tracking sales orders, approving/rejecting purchase orders… etc.
· Fact sheets: designed to display all the relevant information regarding a specific business object in one place.
· Analytical apps: apps that allow users to closely monitor Key Performance indicators (KPIs) and perform complex aggregations and calculations of their business operations.

The Fiori Launchpad

The Launchpad is the basic interface or home page for Fiori. It is the entry point to SAP Fiori apps on mobile and desktop devices. The launchpad displays a home

page with tiles, which can display live status indicators, such as the number of open tasks. Each tile represents a business application that the user can launch. The launchpad is role-based, displaying tiles according to the user’s role. Users can create new apps or customize and modify their existing Launchpad apps by adding or hiding Launchpad tiles. Users can also group the tiles into sections or change their order according to their needs.

To sum up, SAP Fiori is the new browser-based user interface. It focuses on creating a simple, modern, role-based, adaptive and delightful user experience. It supports all main operating systems and can be run on any device. It delivers a large and growing number of apps. Users can modify the existing apps to meet their needs and even create their own apps from scratch.
